This pillow project is inspired by the Modern Tree Block Quilt by Diary of a Quilter. Please review Amy's full instructions for the Modern Tree Block here.
After making several tree quilts, I decided to take things down in size a bit! This pillow was created using a charm (5") squares. Please read the full instructions by Amy, and then use these modifications to create a smaller block. Here are the modifications used to create an 18" pillow.
Fabric Requirements:
1 charm pack (or 36 squares that measure 5 inches) and one fat quarter/quarter yard or scraps for the tree trunks. The fabric used in this pillow is Jolly Darlings by Ruby Star Society.
Modifications:
From each charm, cut off 1 1/2" from the bottom. Insert trunk that is cut to 1" wide by 1 1/2" tall.
Create block using Amy's tutorial and trim the block to 3.5" square
Arrange blocks 36 blocks for each pillow - 6 x 6 for each pillow.
I opted to hand quilt my pillow using size 8 perle cotton in these colors:
- 3324 - Navy Blue
- 4652 - Green
- 4059 - Medium Seagreen
- 3000 - Ecru
- 1072 - Dark Golden Brown
- 4048 - Light Sea Green
- 1474 - Light Coral
- 1902 - Red
*In all honestly, I used 72 charms to create this pillow. It does have a twin, that isn't finished yet! So if you are studying it close, you won't find the "twin" block in this pillow*
